Blake and I had our first promotions in our Taekwondo class. Blake is now a yellow-stripe belt, and happy that he's not a white belt anymore so he can start learning more interesting techniques. Scott is a blue-stripe belt, and happy because he's not a green belt anymore, something he has been for about 20 years.

July 19, 2008 We packed up camp on Saturday, then headed up the mountain to Little Crater Lake, near Timothy Lake. This lake is very unusual, in that it is very small and extremely clear. It is probably around 100 to 150 feet in diameter, and around 45 feet deep. The water is crystal clear and clean, and around 34 degrees F. It is filled by an underwater aquifer from below. It is so clear that you can see the bottom easily from the wooden deck.
Corey and I put on our scuba gear and entered the water. Though the water was cold, we were warm in our gear. We descended to near the bottom, where we could see where the water was bubbling up from below. We only saw one small fish, but it was an interesting dive nonetheless.

July 18, 2008 We took a nice hike near Frog Lake on Trail 530. It was a pretty hike, but was all up hill with an incline of 10 to 30 degrees. Ugh. We hiked up for a couple of miles, then rested and had snacks before heading back down to camp.

June 16, 2008 We signed up Blake for a Taekwondo class at a local dojo. After watching his class a couple times, I remembered how much fun I used to have doing taekwondo in my college years, so I signed up too. I was happy that I was able to enter the class as a green belt, the rank I earned 20 years ago. We are both enjoying it, and the exercise is doing us both good.

May 9, 2008 It was a very exciting day at Vernier Software & Technology, as Barack Obama visited the office! We all evacutated the building while Secret Service and search dogs scoured the premises for any signs of danger. An hour later we were allowed back in the building after passing through a metal detector.
Mr. Obama spoke for a while, then answered several questions of the employees. I'd have to say it was the most unusual and certainly one of the most enjoyable days I've ever had at work.
